Amas Obasogie, one of the Super Eagles’ reserve goalkeepers, has been suspended by his club over allegations of match fixing.

Singida Black Stars, Obasogie’s club, announced the three-month suspension in a statement on Friday.

The Tanzanian club did not disclose the details of the allegations against Obasogie, only saying that an investigation is ongoing.

Obasogie committed a howler late in the game when Black Stars faced Namungo FC in the Tanzanian league on Thursday. Black Stars were leading 1-0 until Namungo had a free kick deep into stoppage time. The delivery of the setpiece initially seemed like a routine catch for the goalkeeper, but he spilt it, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to equalise for the opponents.

The team also suspended Khalid Aucho, a Ugandan player, for three months “for indiscipline and absenteeism from work”.

The club then warned all its players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the badge.

Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopia’s Fasil Kenema.

The goalkeeper has been a regular feature at the Super Eagles camp. He was included in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad that won bronze in Morocco. He was Nigeria’s third-choice goalkeeper for the tournament behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.

Obasogie is the second Nigerian goalkeeper to be enmeshed in a match-fixing scandal in recent years. In 2025, Maduka Okoye was suspended from football activities in Italy for two months over his involvement in a betting scandal.
