Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, suddenly collapsed in his office on Thursday and was hurriedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

A report by Vanguard said the incident sent panic waves through Yenagoa.

The incident, which occurred about 1:30 pm, reportedly triggered an immediate emergency response as aides and security personnel moved swiftly to convey him to the hospital.

Witnesses said the deputy governor appeared to be in a critical state when he arrived at the emergency unit.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo is said to be stabilising in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at FMC.

No official statement has been released regarding his health.

A source close to the deputy governor noted his demanding schedule, saying, “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”

Security personnel have since sealed off the hospital premises, while senior government officials have trooped in to show solidarity.

Repeated efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, yielded no response.

However, hospital insiders told Vanguard that the deputy governor was receiving optimal medical attention and remained in stable condition.
