The FCT High Court in Gwaripa, Abuja, has granted former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, bail in the ongoing corruption case against him.

Justice Maryam Hassan, while granting bail, adopted the terms of the administrative bail previously granted to Ngige by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). She stipulated that the former minister must provide one surety who is a federal government director, owns property in the FCT, and submit his travel documents to the court.

The judge emphasised that bail is at the discretion of the court and that conditions must not be unreasonable or overly stringent, noting that judicial powers must not be exercised arbitrarily.

The court adjourned the trial to 28th and 29th January 2026.

Earlier, the court had adjourned to 18th December for a ruling on Ngige’s bail application. Ngige’s lawyer had requested bail, arguing that the former minister is not a flight risk.

The counsel also highlighted that Ngige had previously been on administrative bail granted by the EFCC and had even travelled to the UK for medical treatment with his passport released by the commission
