Today is a day of showing for Chrisland University’s Professor of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Prof Prisca Adejumo who bagged an international honour in Scotland, United Kingdom, after being inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of fame.

Prof Adejumo joined 32 other world-renowned nurse researchers to receive the honour today Monday, July 25, 2022, at a global event.

The event, organized by the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (SIGMA) is the 33rd International Nursing Research Congress in which the fresh inductees now join 238 distinguished nurses who were previously inducted.

Prof. Adejumo is currently Head, Department of Nursing Science at Chrisland University, an institution renowned for Intellectual Radiance.

The inductee obtained her Bachelor of Nursing Science in 1997, Master of Science Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in 1999, Master of Science Degree in Medical Sociology in 2000, Doctoral Degree in Medical Sociology in 2004, and Doctoral Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in 2016, all from the University of Ibadan.

In 1996, she won the Best Nurse of the Year Award at the Medical Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Prior to her resumption to the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan, Prof. Adejumo worked as a Head Nurse, Medical Unit, Nursing Officer I (Ear, Nose and Throat-FDM) and Deputy Coordinator, Federal Training Center for Teachers of Health
Sciences, Primary Health Care Tutors, UCH for 8 years (1992-2000).

Earlier, she had worked as Nursing Officer II at the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu between 1989 and 1990 and at Best Way Private Clinic, Sagamu as Nurse Manager between 1990 and 1992.

Prof. Adejumo has taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Ibadan.

In 2004, she was selected as the Principal Investigator/Researcher on the multi-site study of assessment and implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention activities by Ford grantee organizations (a project on analysis of community and other responses to HIV/AIDS in Africa).

In 2016, her contribution to knowledge in the effects of genetic nursing education on nurses’ competencies in counseling people with family history of cancer in selected teaching hospitals in southwest Nigeria, a paradigm shift, was brought into oncology nursing with genetic testing introduced into patient care in UCH, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), while plans are on extend same to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTHC) and other countries outside Nigeria.

She has over 50 publications to her credit. She assumed duty at Chrisland University as a Professor of Nursing and Consultant on sabbatical in 2021.

In 2021, she was also appointed as the Head of the Department of Nursing Science at the University, in recognition of her wealth of experience in providing sound academic leadership and mentoring to staff and students of the Department and to ensure that the University continually fulfills its vision, mission, and philosophy.

Elated by this development, Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Prof Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAS, congratulated Prof Adejumo on the well-deserved award.
