Can a pastor run for political office? Can a pastor contest for the traditional stool? The ideological answer is of course no, such would be a travesty of the “high calling” of a pastor; even though the Bible says both the pastor and government official are ministers of God.

But let’s reconfigure the questions and see if it makes a difference: Should a pastor become the President of United States of America, or Queen of England? If your answer is, “It’s not the same” you’re not dealing in first principles or fundamentals.

Good reasoning begins with fundamentals. We need to ask ourselves, what does the Bible say? The truth is, the Bible is NOT against a pastor holding political office or becoming a traditional king. That’s because of the anointing the Christian has. It’s a spirito-secular hybrid.

The word “anointing” is actually a political terminology, it’s not the description of goose bumps. It refers to political authority investiture. It’s why you can decree. Decree is governmental.

The political order to which Jesus belongs is that of Melchizedek. It’s a king-priest combo, a hybrid. It’s why he can be our priest in Heaven and still reign as King of kings. That’s not the anointing of Aaron. That anointing is wholly priesthood. It cannot be combined with secular calling.

We belong to the order of Melchizedek. As Jesus is, so are we. It’s because of this hybridised order the rest of us can take up secular jobs and still serve God as priests. And so we have doctor-priests, lawyer-priests, pastor-engineers, etc. In fact, under the terms of this priesthood the Christian can be king and still pastor. Isn’t that what David, and even Moses did? And they weren’t even under the New Testament. King David was a prophet, Uncle Moses was a national leader, a Mandela. They typify us. Always deal in first principles.

As per submitting oneself to traditional rites everything depends on leverage. There are many traditional kings who were sworn in on the Bible and did not participate in pagan rites. That said, it’s important to separate symbolic rites like the breaking of Kolanut from satanic rites involving sacrifices to demons.
