ome Arsenal supporters agree with Thierry Henry’s recent comments over him being unsure whether the club is “going in the right direction” under Mikel Arteta.
Last week, the Gunners icon criticised his former side’s performance against Brighton before the recent international break, where they were held to a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium.
Henry said this about Arsenal: “I don’t know if things are going in the right direction.
“I was waiting to see the Brighton game, to see if we could have the ball and keep the ball, away from home, retaining possession, against a dangerous Brighton side. But I didn’t see that.”
Arteta was then asked about Henry’s comments in his pre-match press conference towards the end of last week, but the Arsenal boss did not want to be dragged into it.
He said: No, I haven’t [heard what Henry said]. I just hear them from you.”
The Spaniard was then asked about the impact those comments have and replied: “It is just another opinion, so I have to respect that.”
Now, following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday evening, some of the club’s fan base have taken to Reddit and Twitter to agree with Henry’s recent comments about the club in terms of progress, despite the side’s U-turn in form from the very start of the season.
Arsenal have picked up 12 points from their last five Premier League matches, with the side conceding just three goals along the way, but Arteta is still being criticised.
The Gunners boss came under increasing scrutiny earlier in the season after the team lost their opening three matches of the campaign, but have begun to turn their fortunes around since then.
Next up for the north Londoners is another match at the Emirates Stadium – this time Aston Villa are the visitors in a game that has been made even more crucial by the 2-2 draw with Palace on Monday night.
Arsenal took the lead against the Eagles via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Christian Benteke was on hand to equalise for the travelling Palace team before Odsonne Edouard put the visitors ahead in north London.
However, a late strike from Alexandre Lacazette ensured the points would be shared in the four-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium, but the hosts’ inability to control the game after going 1-0 up is something that has disappointed supporters.
