The Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos Diocese recently held a successful 62nd Annual Synod at Methodist Church Igbogila Ipaja with the theme: Arise and Build.

In his address, The Archbishop of Lagos His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi passionately appealed to the current Administration at all levels of governance to go the extra length of maintaining law and order in Nation. He was equally worried about the appalling standard of living in Nigeria and enjoined the government to act fast on her agenda of improving the lots of Nigerians.
He said that this year’s Holy Spirit inspired theme taken from Nehemiah 2.18b ” Let us arise and build” is a clarion call to the Nation and was spoken by Nehemiah at a time when
morale was down. The Church, according to him serves as the conscience of the nation. When something is good, we must appreciate. And when something goes wrong, we must call attention to it. As a church we are praying for the Nation and appealing to people to follow the will of God.

The Archbishop commended the good intentions of the President, His Excellency, Ahmed Bola Tinubu but urged urgent steps to be taken towards the stabilization of the economy, accelerated infrastructural development and the creation of an enabling environment for businesses to grow.
In his own address, the Archdiocesan Lay President, Sir Gbolahan Olayomi called on everyone to put hands together and build the country as the Lord directs. According to him, the work of rebuilding is time bound. And the message to the nation is that this is the time which everything concerning the Nation must be rebuilt so that the future will not be lost.
He called on everyone; the politicians, those in power and the citizens of the country to all come together and build the Country that God wants us to be.
The essence of the annual Synod is to review what the progress of the Church in the past year and also make new decisions to move the work of the Church forward in the coming year.
