Abdullahi Usman, chairman and chief executive of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has resigned from his position.

A source familiar with the development told TheCable that Usman tendered his resignation on Monday night following “deep personal reflection”.

Reports on the subject detailed that the decision was entirely his and was not prompted by any boardroom conflict, leadership crisis, or external pressure.

TheCable understands that Usman felt he had made significant contributions towards improving corporate governance, institutional discipline, and operational stability at NAHCON during his stint in office.

He reportedly chose to step down quietly, believing it was in the best interest of the commission.

As of the time of this report, neither the federal government nor NAHCON had released an official statement on the development.

Usman was appointed NAHCON chairman by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024, following the sack of Jalal Arabi, who was under probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion presidential subsidy for the 2024 hajj.
