Police authorities have reiterated the fact that officers are not authorised to demand customs papers and tinted glass permits from motorists.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, made this known in a tweet today.
Adejobi said police officers could demand customs papers from motorists only when they are on a joint patrol with officers of the Nigerian Customs Service.
He said police officers have also been ordered to stop asking motorists for tinted glass permit since the authorities suspended the issuance of the permit last year.
Adejobi tweeted, “No policeman should demand your customs papers. No. Except they are on joint operation, but not just on mere routine checks. And for now, we have suspended the issuance of tinted glass permits, so we don’t expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this.
“We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay him for not having tinted glass permits. Report them if u are so delayed so that we ask them questions.”
