Popular Nigerian singer, Olamide Adedeji, professionally known as Olamide Baddo, has reaffirmed his pride in his Yoruba identity, defending his culture and traditions against negative perceptions.

The singer maintained that he is a proud Yoruba man and would gladly accept black soap if offered to him.

Olamide said: “I’m a Yoruba boy; if you give me black soap, I’ll gladly collect it.”

He further explained that his remarks were aimed at promoting Yoruba culture and sensitising people against the demonisation of African traditions.

He said: “This is really just promoting the culture and trying to sensitise people that our culture and our tradition is not diabolical.

“Our culture and our tradition is not to be demonised. And we are proud of who we are, where we are coming from and everything about our heritage, our tradition and our culture.”

Olamide made the remarks during his recent appearance at a movie premiere.

For context, black soap is sometimes associated with traditional spiritual practices and viewed with suspicion by some people, particularly those who consider certain African cultural practices diabolical.
