In a congratulatory message marking the monarch’s two decades as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto, Tinubu described him as an influential traditional ruler whose leadership has strengthened unity and understanding among Nigerians.

The President noted that since ascending the throne 20 years ago, the Sultan has demonstrated wisdom, humility and dedication to preserving the heritage of the Sokoto Caliphate while promoting national cohesion.

Tinubu commended the monarch’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, particularly his efforts to strengthen relationships between Christians and Muslims across the country.

He highlighted the Sultan’s leadership as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Co-Chairman of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), describing both roles as important platforms for advancing interfaith dialogue.

According to the President, the Sultan’s interventions during periods of religious and  political tension have helped promote moderation, understanding and national stability.

Tinubu also praised the monarch’s advocacy for education, particularly girl-child education, alongside his support for farmers, public health initiatives and vulnerable communities.

Tinubu further described the Sultan’s 20-year reign as a period of dedicated service, noting that his influence extends beyond traditional leadership to national peacebuilding and humanitarian development.

As the monarch celebrates the milestone, the President prayed for Almighty Allah to grant him continued good health, long life and greater wisdom.

He also expressed hope that the Sultan’s reign would continue to promote peace in Sokoto, strengthen national unity and bring honour to the Muslim community.
