Mikel Arteta has spoken highly of one teenager who can play on the left-wing, as Arsenal miss out on Vinicius Junior.
Young academy players who earn early international recognition often attract glowing praise from their club managers like Mikel Arteta. Maturity and focus at a young age stand out during pre-season assessments. Careful development remains the priority once potential is identified.
Wingers who have already contributed goals in youth football continue to impress when given senior opportunities. International debuts before a first-team appearance for the club underline rapid progress. Day-by-day improvement forms the basis of their approach.

Mikel Arteta has spoken highly of Arsenal teenager Ceadach O’Neill after the Northern Ireland international featured in pre-season friendlies. The 18-year-old has been involved against Girona and Real Betis and also scored in a behind-closed-doors match against MK Dons.
“I’ve been really impressed with him,” Arteta told BBC Sport NI. “For his age, he’s really mature, really focused, and he has tremendous quality. He’s a player that we have big hopes with and we just need to develop him in the right way.”
O’Neill joined Arsenal from Linfield and scored 18 goals in 30 academy appearances before earning his first senior Northern Ireland caps in June friendlies against Guinea and France. The former Linfield winger remains eligible for the Republic of Ireland but has committed to the Northern Ireland pathway so far.
The youngster said he is focused on his club career while remaining open to further international involvement. “At the minute I’m just going to take it day by day, keep coming in and giving it my best. That’s all I can do,” O’Neill said. “I’ve been taking to Michael recently but I have to keep pushing at club level and we’ll see what happens. I’m just trying to concentrate at club level and I think that’s all I can do. I’m really enjoying what I’m doing and where I’m at.”
Supporters will be encouraged by the assessment of Mikel Arteta. O’Neill’s early integration into the senior pre-season group and international recognition highlight his potential. The club will continue to manage his development carefully as he aims to progress further.
Further opportunities in the remaining friendlies could follow. Arsenal’s belief in the teenager is clear, and his maturity has already left a strong impression on the manager.
