“They’re rigging your future. They’re rigging the future of your children. We’re waiting for them. Let them try it. It is rig and die. We’re going to give them aura for aura. There’s no court this time. We’re going to fight.”

These were the words with which Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President, served notice to election brigands, who might through any other means, attempt to themselves to stealing the people’s mandate in 2027, on what awaits them.

The top politician, who wants to return to his job at the Red Chambers on behalf of the people of Delta Central, in Delta State, on ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), told his audience on Friday, that it would be foolhardy to allow unscrupulous elements attempt to destroy the future of millions of people by watching them compromise the electoral process as they did four years ago.

Hear him: “I want to make the news again. Anybody who rigs the election on that day, we will kill him! If you don’t value your life, come and rig the election.”

Omo-Agege, who resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated May 22 and addressed to the chairman of the party’s Orogun ward 2 in Ughelli north LGA of Delta state, is believed to be eyeing the position of the Senate President.

His threat, on Friday, comes on the heels of the assurance of Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, that the coming election would be free and fair and devoid of manipulation at any quarters, which he said reflected the direct order to all the authorities in charge to ensure.

He told reporters at the State House in Abuja that the President also instructed security agencies to provide a safe environment for Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“You can see all heads of security agencies are here. We had an intensive discussion, and Mr President made it very clear he wants a free, fair and credible election. We must do everything possible to ensure that the country is safe and secure for the citizens to go out and vote.

“For all other political parties, they should understand that the security forces are going to be neutral. We are going to ensure that we give everybody the opportunity to go and serve, so they have nothing to worry about, nothing to be afraid of, and nobody is going to intimidate them for whatever reasons.”
