Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, has pledged support for traders affected by the petrol tanker explosion near Oluku Market along the Benin-Lagos road.

TheCable reported that at least eight people sustained burn injuries after a petrol tanker fell and exploded near Oluku Market on Thursday.

The incident occurred after residents and passers-by reportedly rushed to scoop petrol from the fallen tanker.

Okpebholo visited the victims at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), on Friday, expressing sympathy for families who lost loved ones and traders whose businesses were destroyed by the fire.

The governor assured the affected traders that his administration would support efforts to rebuild the market and help them recover their livelihoods.

“To our traders, please be assured that you are not alone. My government will support efforts to rebuild the market and help affected traders get back on their feet,” he said.

Okpebholo also urged residents to take safety warnings seriously, particularly during fuel-related emergencies, stressing that human lives should take priority over material possessions.

He prayed for comfort for the bereaved families, recovery for the injured and strength for everyone affected by the incident.
