Former SGF Babachir Lawal says he would rather back President Bola Tinubu than Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidency, warning that Nigeria risks a chaotic collapse under Atiku.

Lawal, speaking on Naija Unfiltered Podcast, said while both scenarios may be tough, Tinubu’s would be orderly compared to Atiku’s.

“I’d rather go with Bola than Atiku because when Nigeria crashes with Bola, it might be an orderly crash, but with Atiku it would be a chaotic one,” he said, adding: “Because he’s not a good man.”

He said he initially considered supporting Atiku out of concern for the North’s hardship, hoping a Northern president would halt the region’s decline, but his past working relationship with Atiku discouraged him.

“Everything you do with him, there’s chaos,” Lawal alleged, claiming Atiku gives instructions and later reverses them after consulting others.

Lawal also revealed that Atiku asked him to get Peter Obi to agree to be his running mate, offering to serve only one term and push for a single six-year term, with subsequent rotation starting from the South-East and North-Central.

According to him, Obi rejected the proposal, saying his survey showed the ticket would lose, and preferred not to contest at all than run on a ticket bound to fail.
