Gunmen Abduct Newlyweds, Four Others After Engagement in Kwara

Six persons, including a newlywed couple, have been kidnapped along the border between Kwara and Kogi States.

The couple, Funmilayo Bamidele and Reverend Abiodun David, were returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State, on Saturday evening when they were abducted.

The victims were travelling with four other persons. Their driver was said to have diverted from the Isanlu Road to use a back route through Iyemero to drop the Best Man and others in Iyamoye, Kogi State, when gunmen blocked the road and took them away.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who confirmed the abduction, said a joint rescue operation has been launched.

According to him, soldiers and police operatives have been deployed to comb surrounding bushes, while the vehicle conveying the victims has been recovered at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.

Ojo said operatives from Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti Commands are collaborating on the operation due to the location of the incident at the tri-state border.
