Akume Urges Political Officeholders To Communicate Tinubu’s Achievements

George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has urged ministers, special advisers, chairmen and chief executive officers of federal government agencies to intensify efforts to communicate the achievements of the Bola Tinubu administration to Nigerians.

Akume spoke on Wednesday at the Federal Appointees Strategic Summit in Abuja.

He described the summit as an important platform for federal political appointees and heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to take stock of the administration’s achievements and assess how its policies and programmes have affected ordinary Nigerians.

“This is a strategic Summit of top political appointees of government. We are referring to Ministers, Special Advisers, Chairmen and CEOs of Agencies,” Akume said.

He added that the broad representation at the summit was necessary because of the extensive responsibilities of government institutions across the country.

Akume urged ministers and heads of government agencies to take responsibility for communicating the programmes, policies and achievements of their respective institutions in a clear and accessible manner.

“We are not evaluating. What we are doing is taking stock of what has been achieved by each Ministry and every Agency, and how we are able to influence the lives of the ordinary people,” he said.

He encouraged participants to be open and constructive during the sessions and share their experiences, challenges and perspectives on the implementation of government programmes.

Akume said the summit would provide an opportunity to examine the administration’s scorecard and determine the extent to which government interventions have translated to improvements in the lives of citizens.

‘ACHIEVEMENTS BASED ON FACTS’

Dele Alake, minister of solid minerals development, said the summit offered ministries, agencies, boards, federal establishments and other institutions an opportunity to present their achievements and demonstrate their contributions to the Tinubu administration.

Alake urged participants to regard the exercise as a presentation of the collective scorecard of federal appointees entrusted with responsibilities by the president.

He said the administration has recorded significant and unprecedented strides since its inception.

Alake said the achievements are based on “tangible facts” and should not be dismissed as rhetoric or political grandstanding.

He urged federal appointees to communicate the administration’s accomplishments more effectively and demonstrate their impact across different sectors.

‘RENEWED HOPE AGENDA NOT A SLOGAN’

Atiku Bagudu, minister of budget and economic planning, said Tinubu’s decision to contest the 2023 presidential election was driven by his determination to address longstanding challenges confronting Nigeria.

Bagudu said the Renewed Hope Agenda is not a mere campaign slogan but the product of careful consideration of the country’s circumstances and the choices required to move it forward.

He commended Akume for convening the summit, describing it as an important platform for federal government appointees to collectively review and communicate the achievements recorded under the administration.

The summit brought together federal political appointees and heads of MDAs who deliberated on government programmes, achievements, challenges and strategies for strengthening implementation and communication of the administration’s agenda.
