Exclusive – Eguavoen Named as Interim Coach of Super Falcons

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Austine Eguavoen has been picked as the interim coach of the senior women’s team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The team has been left without a coach following the decision of the former board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fire head coach Justin Madugu, following his failure to qualify for the world cup for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Ahead of the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers, Eguavoen will be in charge and will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma who managed the Nigeria U20 team (Falconets ) across multiple stints, including the 2022 and 2024 World Cup cycles.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will begin their qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games against Comoros, with both legs of the second-round tie scheduled for the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo.

The matches will take place on October 9 and 13, 2026, as Nigeria begin another attempt to secure one of Africa’s two places at the women’s Olympic football tournament.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros advanced after eliminating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons returned to the Olympics at Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence and will be aiming to make consecutive appearances for the first time since competing at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
