End Of an Era: FG Hands Over King’s College Lagos Management to Old Boys

The Federal Government has formally handed over the management of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA), in a landmark development that will significantly alter the administration of one of Nigeria’s oldest federal secondary schools.

The Federal Ministry of Education announced the concession in a letter dated September 4, 2026, signed on behalf of the Permanent Secretary by the Director, Overseeing Office of the Permanent Secretary, Dr Folake Olatunji-David.

In the letter addressed to the Principal of King’s College, the ministry said all processes leading to the execution of the concession agreement had been concluded, paving the way for the transfer of the institution’s management to KCOBA.

According to the ministry, arrangements had also been concluded for the immediate commencement of the handover and implementation of the agreement.

To ensure an orderly transition, the ministry said a Transition Committee would be constituted to oversee the transfer of the college’s management to the old boys’ association.

The committee is expected to complete the transition within six months, after which funding for the institution from the Federation Account will cease.

The ministry consequently directed the school management to activate all necessary arrangements to facilitate the smooth transfer of administrative responsibilities to KCOBA.

The Principal was further directed to provide the Transition Committee with a list of staff who wish to remain in the employment of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

The concession marks a major change in the management structure of King’s College, Lagos, with KCOBA set to assume a significantly expanded role in the administration, development and future direction of the historic institution.

The Federal Ministry of Education also directed that the contents of the letter be communicated to all relevant stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition and implementation of the concession agreement.
