Local vigilantes have discovered an abandoned Peace Mass Transit bus conveying National Youth Service Corps members from Bayelsa State to Abuja, shortly after some passengers were abducted in Kogi State.

The development was captured in a video shared on X on Friday, showing the vigilantes attending to some of the passengers who appeared to have escaped from the attack.

One of the voices in the video could be heard asking about the safety of those who escaped, while another person was seen checking on an injured man.

โ€œNa the people wey safe from the kidnapping be that. Na the people wey escape be this. Be like say they shoot that man, na God save am,โ€ a voice said.

Another voice was heard reassuring the survivors, saying, โ€œMadam make una calm down, make una take am easy, God don save una.โ€

PUNCH Online earlierย reportedย that 11 victims, including the drivers of the two buses, were rescued after armed hoodlums abducted passengers along the Alomaโ€“Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The police said the victims were abducted on Wednesday after the attackers blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions, while a joint security operation to rescue the remaining victims was ongoing.

Reacting to the video, an X user, Onyeador N, questioned the Kogi State Governmentโ€™s response to the recurring kidnappings and killings along the route.

โ€œIs there not anything the govt of Kogi state can do to stop this kidnapping and killings along this axis. Can they declare a state of emergency here? This is unacceptable. This is a failure of governance,โ€ he wrote.

Another X user, Chidi Ndumego, called for an end to the compulsory National Youth Service Scheme until the insecurity affecting the country is addressed.

โ€œThe sooner we scrap this youth service contraption (until we deal with this insecurity), the better,โ€ he wrote.
