‘When, Where Dotun Oladipo Will Be Buried,’ Family Releases Funeral Plan For Eagle Online Founder

The family of the late Dotun Samson Oladipo has announced dates for his final burial. The veteran journalist and Publisher of _The Eagle Online_ will be laid to rest in Lagos on September 10th and 11th, 2026.

The announcement was made early Thursday morning by Kazeem Akintunde, a close friend and associate of Oladipo. He shared the update with colleagues on the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, WhatsApp group.

“Good morning dear colleagues. Dotun’s family has decided that his burial will take place in Lagos on September 10th and 11th,” Akintunde wrote, bringing clarity after days of grief and uncertainty in media circles.

Oladipo died suddenly on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56. His death sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s media industry, where he was widely regarded as a pioneer of digital journalism.

As former President of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021 and former Political Editor of _The PUNCH_, Oladipo helped shape how online news is reported, regulated, and respected in Nigeria. Tributes have poured in from President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and media bodies across the country.

The choice of Lagos for the burial reflects both his professional base and the city where he built _The Eagle Online_ into one of Nigeria’s most credible digital news platforms.

While the family has not yet released full details of the funeral activities, the two-day window suggests a program that will include a service of songs, commendation, and interment, with colleagues and dignitaries expected in attendance.
