The Director, General Services, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) National Directorate Headquarters, Mrs. Abimbola Yetunde Baderinwa, has charged Corps Members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course to cultivate positive mindsets, think critically, and use their service year to make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
Mrs. Baderinwa gave the charge while addressing Corps Members at the NYSC Multipurpose Hall, Permanent Orientation Camp, Sagamu. She encouraged them to approach the service year with optimism, open-mindedness, and a willingness to learn from their experiences.
She urged the Corps Members to develop into positive-minded individuals and critical thinkers capable of identifying challenges within their environments and proffering practical solutions. According to her, the service year provides an opportunity to discover their abilities, broaden their perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Director emphasised the importance of respecting the cultures, traditions, and values of their host communities, noting that Corps Members would interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds throughout their service year. She advised them not to impose their personal beliefs or lifestyles on members of their host communities, but rather to learn from, understand, and appreciate their uniqueness.
Mrs. Baderinwa further challenged the Corps Members to look beyond their primary assignments by identifying genuine needs within their host communities. She encouraged them to apply their knowledge, talents, and skills to develop initiatives capable of addressing identified challenges and improving the well-being of the people.
She also advised the Corps Members to use social media wisely and responsibly, urging them to be mindful of the content they create, share, and post online. She encouraged them to leverage digital platforms to promote positive messages, showcase their community contributions, acquire knowledge, and build meaningful professional networks, while avoiding content that could damage their reputation or that of the NYSC Scheme.
She noted that meaningful community engagement could make the difference between merely completing the service year and leaving behind a lasting positive legacy.
The Director also underscored the importance of building valuable relationships with members of host communities, fellow Corps Members, employers, and other stakeholders, explaining that such relationships could create opportunities for collaboration, learning, mentorship, and personal development.
She therefore urged the Corps Members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC Scheme by demonstrating discipline, respect, responsibility, and patriotism in all their engagements.
Mrs. Baderinwa encouraged them to embrace every opportunity presented during the service year, stressing that the experiences and relationships gained could contribute significantly to their personal and professional growth beyond NYSC.
Earlier, the Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Omolabake Frances Adewuyi, briefed the Director on activities at the camp, highlighting the achievements recorded as well as challenges encountered in the course of the Orientation Exercise.
The State Coordinator’s briefing provided an overview of the progress of the Orientation Course and the various measures being taken to ensure the welfare, safety, and effective participation of Corps Members throughout the exercise.
Mrs. Baderinwa thereafter charged the Corps Members to remain purposeful throughout their service year, identify opportunities to add value, and ensure that their presence in their respective host communities is remembered for positive and impactful contributions.
