‘Time is Running Out’ — INEC asks Nigerians to Register, Update Voter Details as CVR Ends Today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise will end today as earlier announced.

BACKGROUND

In August 2025, INEC commenced the first phase of the CVR with online pre-registration, followed by in-person registration on August 25.

At the end of the first phase in December, the commission recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 in-person.

The second phase began on January 5 and ended on April 17, with 3,748,704 completed registrations across the country.

In May, the commission commenced its third phase CVR exercise.

In July, the commission said it had extended the CVR exercise by two weeks.

‘TIME IS RUNNING OUT’

Sharing an update through an X post on Sunday, INEC urged eligible Nigerians to register to vote and update their voter information before the deadline.

The commission noted that services available under the exercise include new voter registration, transfer of registration, correction of personal details, and replacement of lost or damaged permanent voter cards (PVCs).

“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” INEC said.

“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”

The commission said prospective voters should complete their registration online through its CVR portal or visit any of its state or local council offices before the close of the exercise.

INEC added that eligible voters should not wait until it is too late.

The organisation underlined that participation in the CVR exercise is a prerequisite to casting one’s ballot in next year’s general election.
