Kylian Mbappe is the leading all-time goalscorer in World Cup history.
Mbappe scored a brace in France’s 6-4 loss to England in the 2026 World Cup bronze medal match to take his all-time tally to 22 goals.
He is one goal ahead of Lionel Messi, who will play the final for Argentina against Spain on Sunday.
The French had to produce an impressive second-half performance against England to avoid an embarrassing result after going down 4-0 at halftime.
Mbappe scored France’s first goal of the match in the 48th minute with a clinical finish inside the box.
He then scored France’s third in the 66th minute after Bradley Barcola had grabbed the team’s second goal 12 minutes earlier.
Michael Olise poked a pass to his teammate at the edge of the box, and the French captain smashed home his tenth goal of the competition. The strike takes his tally for the ongoing World Cup edition to 10, two ahead of Messi in second place.
Mbappe also became the first player to score at least 10 goals at a World Cup since Germany’s Gerd Muller did in 1970.
