Daystar Power wins Sustainability honour as oil giant marks 60+ years in Nigeria
Shell stood in the spotlight on Wednesday night at the 25th Nigeria Oil and Gas, NOG Energy Week in Abuja, bagging two major awards for reshaping Nigeria’s energy story.
The global energy giant won the Equality in Energy Award for its push on diversity and inclusion. Its subsidiary, Daystar Power, clinched the Sustainability in Energy Award for leading the charge on decarbonisation across West Africa.

The awards recognised more than just projects. They honoured a culture shift inside Shell Nigeria.

In a landmark move last month, Elohor Aiboni, former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, SNEPCo, was named Executive Vice President and Country Chair Nigeria.
She becomes the first Nigerian to hold the combined role, and will assume duty on August 1.
The appointment caps a deliberate drive by Shell to put more women in top leadership, a move the NOG judges said set a new standard for the industry.
—Powering Business Beyond Oil—
Daystar Power was honoured for rolling out solar and hybrid energy solutions for businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
Judges cited its work in cutting emissions for commercial and industrial clients as proof that Shell is moving beyond oil and gas into the future of energy.
—60 Years and Counting—
The recognitions also spotlighted Shell’s footprint in Nigeria — more than 60 years of pioneering oil and gas production, deepwater development, integrated gas, and now renewables.
Speaking through Joseph Mordi, General Manager Wells and Geoscience Operations Nigeria, Marno de Jong, Executive Vice President Nigeria and Country Chair, said:
“We will continue to play our role in developing the industry and help to promote economic growth in Nigeria through the efficient delivery of our businesses in deepwater oil and gas production, integrated gas, renewables and power solutions.”
—Industry Applause—
Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, congratulated the winners and praised the collaboration that made the NOG conference a success.

Shell, a key sponsor of NOG Energy Week, also hosted a well-attended dinner on Tuesday and mounted a major exhibition during the 4-day event.
With Nigeria pushing for more gas, cleaner power, and inclusive growth, Shell’s double win signals where the industry is headed — less carbon, more diversity, and energy solutions built for the next 60 years.
