Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar says she’s back — and she’s born again.

After nearly nine years away from the spotlight due to a mysterious illness, Halima has announced her conversion from Islam to Christianity and dedicated her life to serving Jesus Christ.

—“I’m a brand-new person now”—

Speaking ahead of her public testimony, the actress said her healing came through God and the prayers of Apostle Queen Belemzy.

“I’m a brand-new person now. I have given my life to Christ. I want to serve God because He has helped me. I almost died. They almost killed me. This is not about movies; this is about restoration and testimony. Halima Abubakar is back, big and better.”

She will share the full story on Saturday, July 4 at the Holy Ghost Revival organised by Queen Belemzy Ministries (School of Power) at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja. Time: 9am to 5pm.

—How the prayers began—

Halima recounted her first encounter with Apostle Belemzy.

“The first time Apostle Queen Belemzy called me on the phone, I was somehow rude to her because of my mood then, but she still went ahead to pray with me over the phone. I later felt the impact of her prayers regarding my health, so I started searching for her number via my WhatsApp calls. I eventually got in touch with her, she continued to pray with me, and God took control of everything through her.

“Right now, I’m ready to serve God because He wants me to serve Him. He has delivered me, so I need to serve Him and preach His gospel to the people.”

—Years of illness and controversy—

Halima’s health struggles went public in 2022 after videos of her looking frail circulated online. She later revealed she had spent millions on treatment for an undisclosed illness, while repeatedly denying speculation about what caused it.

The actress was also at the centre of a public dispute with Apostle Johnson Suleman after accusing the cleric of having a relationship with her and linking him to her health challenges. Suleman denied the claims and took legal action.

In recent months, Halima has posted videos suggesting she was recovering and slowly returning to normal life.

Now, she says the chapter of pain is over — and the chapter of ministry has begun.
