President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, on his “resounding victory” in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s confidence in his administration.
Oyebanji secured a landslide win in the election, polling 319,224 votes to defeat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 12,872 votes.
The governor won in all 16 LGAs of the state, according to Adenike Oladiji, the returning officer for the election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy to the president, Tinubu commended the people of Ekiti for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the election and for reposing their trust in Oyebanji.
The president also praised law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
Tinubu charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue investing in the conduct of peaceful, free, fair and credible elections ahead of the governorship election in Osun state in August and the general elections next year.
He noted that with his overwhelming victory, Oyebanji has become the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to secure back-to-back re-election.
“Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO agenda,” Tinubu said.
The president said the renewed mandate represents a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance.
He urged the governor to remain magnanimous in victory and carry all residents of the state along as he builds on his achievements over the next four years.
Tinubu also commended other candidates who participated in the election for exercising their democratic rights, adding that it was time for all stakeholders to support Oyebanji in advancing governance and development in the state.
The president reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to partnering with the Ekiti state government to deliver more dividends of democracy and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country.
He also prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of the state.
