Meta Unveils AI Agent to Help Businesses Operate 24/7 — here are 5 Things it Can Do

Meta, the social media giant and parent company for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent to help small and big businesses operate round the clock. 

Speaking at the Meta Conversations in London on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the company, said the agent will learn and get to a point where it can “handle everything from the first question to the final sale”.

“Today, I want to introduce Meta Business Agent, giving every business of any size an agent to talk to consumers and help run your operation. So now, a clothing shop in Birmingham or a bakery in Sao Paulo can offer you always-on, highly personalised experience as a major brand,” Zuckerberg said.

The Meta CEO added that more than one million businesses already use Meta Business Agents, and the company is “excited to expand to more countries and bring them to Instagram as well”.

According to Meta, the agent takes minutes to set up and can learn the language and processes of the business to reply to every individual customer like a human working for the business will.

For a business, this means your customer can get help even while you sleep, and for the consumer, they can get well-tailored answers without it sounding extremely like AI slop.

24/7 Service & Intelligent handoff: The agent has the ability to handle a majority of customer queries based on the information it has learnt from the business’ knowledge base and previous chats. It also knows when to transfer the chat to the business owner or customer service staff when a human is needed for further information, intelligently summarising the crux of the conversation to the business before the transfer.

Dashboard & Morning Report: While the agent might speak to tens or thousands of customer daily, it curates a report, highlighting the best insights from all its conversations. It summarises how many conversations happened, what customers were asking, which conversations need personal intervention, and a chat window where the owner can ask the agent questions on any of the conversations.

Business Discovery: Fred Leach, VP of Product at Meta, told TheCable that finding businesses on WhatsApp was “largely difficult”, but with the launch of the new business agent, it is now a lot easier to discover new businesses. He said Meta has now implemented “fuzzy search, so you’re seeing the results, before you actually complete [the search]”.

Payment in-app & Connection to over 150 Apps: The agent also connects to existing tools used by businesses like Shopify, Salesforce, Google Calendar, and custom APIs. This helps the agent get real-time access to stock levels, prices, availability, promotions, and calendar bookings.

In this instance, the agent pulls live data rather than cached data, so answers are always accurate. Payments are integrated so customers can complete purchases entirely inside WhatsApp without leaving the conversation.

Voice note with businesses: Meta says the business agent can also interact using voice messages, making conversations feel more natural for customers who prefer speaking to typing, showing a demo on stage. Businesses can receive and respond to voice notes through the agent, which understands spoken queries and provides relevant answers based on the company’s knowledge base and connected systems.

The feature, they said, is particularly useful in markets where voice messaging is a common form of communication, allowing customers to make enquiries, seek support, or place orders in a more conversational way.

Meta Business Agent is available globally from Wednesday, June 3, 2026 and will also be included in the subscription tier for Meta One.
