Niniola Apata, the Nigerian songstress, says the passing of Michael Ndika, her husband, has deeply affected her life.
Niniola announced Ndika’s death on May 20. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
The Grammy-nominated musician opened up further about her grief in an Instagram post on Thursday.

She described her late husband as her closest friend, trusted advisor, source of strength, business partner, and “the air I breathe,” adding that she “can’t survive” his demise.
The singer, who earlier revealed that they had been together for 13 years, described Michael as “one in a million”.
“I find myself waiting, expecting Michael to walk through the door… My BEST FRIEND my CONFIDANT my PILLAR my Gossip Partner my LAUGHTER my JOY GIVER my Provider my business partner my HUSBAND my BROTHER,” she wrote.
“HE was the air I breathe I can’t survive this… I looked forward to him coming home everytime he went out… Even in the house we were always together He never wanted me to be away from him.
“Always wanted me to be by his side I’m naturally a LONER and Micheal was all that I needed because he was one in a Million … He touched my life in different capacities And God took him from me.”
Ndika was the CEO of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on Afro-house and African music.
Niniola rose to fame after emerging as the second runner-up on the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013. She released her debut single ‘Ibadi’ in 2014 and has since become one of Nigeria’s prominent music stars.
