Deby is in Abuja for a working visit at Tinubu’s invitation.

Both leaders held a meeting in the company of their cabinets, photos shared by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, showed.

Officials in the Nigerian delegation included Christopher Musa, minister of defence; Olufemi Oluyede, chief of defence staff; and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, minister of state, foreign affairs.

Addressing the press after the meeting, Tinubu said the leaders discussed security challenges in the region, particularly the Chad Basin.

Nigeria and Chad are members of the multinational joint task force (MJTF), a formation of regional troops mandated to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency. It is headquartered in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital.

Tinubu added that the task force would ensure terrorism is eliminated from all angles while maintaining the sovereignty of both nations.

He said peace and stability would drive regional development, allowing citizens to trade and move freely.

The is Deby’s first official trip to Nigeria since Tinubu attended his inauguration in N’Djamena in May 2024.
