Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state, says his administration would not have recorded major achievements in the past two and a half years without the support of President Bola Tinubu.

Sani spoke on Wednesday night while hosting social media influencers for Iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast.

He said Kaduna state would be the first subnational government to benefit from the $200 million Nigeria-China poultry project. He attributed this to the president’s support for the state.

“By the grace of God, in the next two months, we will be doing the groundbreaking for the construction of the biggest poultry project in sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.

According to the governor, the project will “create at least 350 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs, and it will support about 10,000 small businesses within Kaduna state”.

Sani also said Kaduna would be the first state outside Lagos to have a light rail system “because of the benevolence of President Bola Tinubu”.

The governor shared that the groundbreaking for the light rail project is scheduled for May.

Sani said his administration has made significant progress over the past two and a half years, noting that social media influencers have played a role in promoting the government’s achievements.

He added that the state government, in partnership with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, has built about 104 schools to address the problem of out-of-school children.

“Kaduna State government has built 65 secondary schools and renovated over 2,300 classrooms. We are also working toward building an additional 55 secondary schools,” he said.

“We are also recruiting at least 2,000 teachers in our primary schools, starting from next month. And we will continue to do this exercise every year.”

The governor recalled that “when we came in, we had about 580,000 out-of-school children today, but by the grace of God, we have reduced that number to only about 182,000″.

Sani said his administration has also expanded skills development by establishing vocational institutions in Soba, Rigachukun and Zangon Kataf, which he said will graduate about 32,000 NBTE-certified artisans annually.

He added that tuition cuts in state-owned tertiary institutions have boosted enrolment by more than 200 percent.

The governor also highlighted improvements in healthcare and agriculture, including the upgrade of 255 primary healthcare centres, recruitment of medical personnel, an increase in the agriculture budget to more than 11 percent, and the distribution of 900 trucks of free fertiliser to smallholder farmers.
