Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba state, has dismissed rumours of a rift between him and Theophilus Danjuma, retired general and former minister of defence, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kefas spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the State House after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

“I don’t have any problem with TY Danjuma; he is my father. Since we started politics, nothing has ever come between us. People just speculate, but there is no issue at all,” he said.

Kefas said his relationship with Danjuma remains cordial, grounded in longstanding military and personal ties.

The governor said he consulted the elder statesman before leaving the PDP and received his blessings.

“Before I defected, I secured his approval. He assured me of his support whenever I need it,” he said.

Kefas denied allegations that his defection was financially motivated.

“Nobody gave me money to defect to the APC,” he said.

He said his decision was driven by conviction and strategic considerations for the development of Taraba state.

Kefas pledged to deliver Taraba for Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

“Delivering Taraba will not be difficult because our policies are already impacting the grassroots,” he said.

The governor said his meeting with the president focused on security, agriculture, residents’ welfare, and improved federal-state collaboration.

He described the engagement as meaningful, noting that it marked his first official meeting with Tinubu since joining the APC.

Kefas said security in Taraba has improved significantly, reducing violence and enhancing mobility across the state.

He added that his administration has boosted agricultural productivity through mechanisation, including the importation of tractors and plans for local processing plants to strengthen value chains and create jobs.

The governor called for unity and prayers during the overlapping Christian Lenten season and Muslim Ramadan.
