A Nigerian pastor has sparked heavy reactions online after delivering a blunt sermon about relationships, breakups, and gifts received from romantic partners.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @ChukEricE, he addressed his church members while sharing a story involving a woman and her ex-boyfriend.
According to him, the woman’s ex took back a shop he had set up for her after they broke up, insisting that the man was not wicked for reclaiming what he paid for.

“How can your boyfriend buy a car for you and you say you will not date again and still keep the car? You are a thief,” the cleric said.
He further stressed that once a relationship ends, every benefit attached to it must also end, stressing that no one is entitled to keep gifts from a former partner.
He also describe items bought during a relationship as “official properties” tied to what he called the office of a girlfriend.
“It’s an official car. It’s for the office of a girlfriend. When you leave the office, you leave the wig, the iPhone, the car, the shoe, the house and go back to your father’s house,” he added.
The sermon has since divided Nigerians online.
While some supported the pastor’s stance, arguing that gifts should be returned after a breakup, others slammed him for promoting control and entitlement in relationships.
Reacting online, one user wrote, “So if a woman buys a man phone or supports him, will she also collect it back.” Another added, “A gift is a gift. Once you give it, it’s no longer yours.”
