Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has reiterated that all taxpayers in Nigeria are required to file their annual tax returns on or before March 31 each year, regardless of their income level or whether their taxes have already been deducted under the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) system.

Oyedele made this clarification during a recent webinar organised in collaboration with the Joint Revenue Board (JRB).

He explained that PAYE, which allows employers to deduct income tax directly from employees’ salaries and remit it to the government, does not exempt individuals from the obligation of filing annual tax returns.

According to him, filing returns is a statutory requirement aimed at improving tax compliance, enhancing transparency, and strengthening the country’s fiscal system, noting that all eligible taxpayers must adhere to the deadline to avoid possible penalties.
