No fewer than four persons have been killed after suspected bandits attacked Damala village in Woko district of Borgu LGA, Niger state.

The attack occurred barely one week after gunmen killed at least 42 residents in several communities in Borgu and neighbouring Agwara LGAs.

TheCable understands that the latest assault happened around 11pm on Friday after villagers had retired for the night.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the Niger police command, confirmed the attack, saying about four persons were killed.

“On 10th Jan, 2026, within the early hours of the day, a report received indicated that suspected armed bandits attacked Damala Village, via Woko District Borgu LGA, rustled some cattle and about four persons lost their lives during the attack within the village,” Abiodun told TheCable.

The police spokesperson said some shops were set ablaze during the attack.

“Security agencies visited the scene, clearance operations are ongoing, and monitoring continues,” he added.

On January 4, President Bola Tinubu ordered the military, police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to track and arrest those responsible for the attack on Kasuwan Daji community in Niger state.

Tinubu also assured residents that security agencies had been directed to intensify operations in vulnerable communities, particularly areas close to forests used by criminal groups.
