FG Earmarks N7bn for Solar Energy in State House, N2.5bn for Vehicles

The federal government plans to spend N7 billion for the installation of solar energy systems at the state house, according to the proposed 2026 appropriation bill.

It also allocated N2.5 billion for the purchase of “operational vehicles”, and another N768,928,886 for the “replacement” of SUVs.

President Bola Tinubu presented the N58.18 trillion 2026 federal budget to the national assembly on December 19, 2025, following approval by the federal executive council (FEC).

On December 23, 2025, the senate passed the 2026 appropriation bill for second reading.

The federal government also budgeted N283.85 billion for the presidential air fleet logistics and management, including the operation of the national forest guard.

A presidential air fleet is a collection of aircraft for official use by a country’s president, heads of state, and high-ranking officials.

In the 2023 supplementary budget, the federal government had earmarked N12.7 billion for the presidential air fleet.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian forest guard is an inter-agency initiative led by the NSA, supported by the federal ministry of environment, and coordinated operationally by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Park Service.

They are tasked with protecting Nigeria’s forests, combating insecurity, and supporting communities, with roles in forest protection, law enforcement, community engagement, and security operations.

In December 2025, about 7,000 newly recruited forest guards, drawn from seven frontline states, graduated after completing a three-month intensive training programme.

In the appropriation bill, a total of N5.41 trillion was allocated to defence and security, representing approximately 9.3 percent of the total expenditure.
