“It is a shame big shame to the minister for lying and flaunting money on governorship ambition” Mr Raji concluded.
Over a million residents in Ibadan, including those in Tipper Garage, Elebu, Odo-Ona Elewe, Kasumu, and areas along Akala Expressway, have been experiencing a total blackout since January 1, with no electricity supply.
An investigation by Newspot revealed that some areas in Ibadan are facing similar challenges, despite the Ibadan DisCo (IBEDC) announcing a planned three-hour daily blackout in 22 communities from January 5, 2026, due to road construction along Foodco Road and Idi Isin.
The affected areas listed by IBEDC include Alalubosa GRA, Ogunkola, Museum, Akinola Maja, FRIN, Forestry College, Lead City, Lead British, House 18, Eleventh House, Commissionaire, Nursing Home, Sunrise, Post Housing, AMI Complex, ODUA, Police Headquarters, Apampa, The Heavens, Blossom Heritage, Polo Clubs, and Baale Akintayo. However, the areas experiencing prolonged blackout, like Kasumu, are not included in the plan.
A resident, Raji, expressed frustration, stating that his area has been neglected for two months, describing the Minister of Power’s promise of regular electricity supply as a “big lie”.
Raji criticized the minister, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, for allegedly prioritizing governorship election campaigns over addressing the power crisis, saying it’s shameful for Nigeria to apologize for frequent national grid collapses at 65.
“It is a shame big shame to the minister for lying and flaunting money on governorship ambition” Mr Raji concluded.
IBEDC explained that the scheduled blackout is due to the relocation of facilities and assets, affecting some feeders for about three hours daily from January 5 to 9, 2026. The statement read partly, “Kindly be informed that due to ongoing road construction along Foodco Road, Idi Isin, Ibadan, IBEDC facilities and assets in the area are being relocated… Some feeders will be switched off for approximately 3 hours daily.”
The prolonged blackout has sparked outrage among residents, with many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing the power crisis in Ibadan.
