A Kano high court has affirmed the suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa, the suspended state chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) from Gargari ward in Dawakin-Tofa LGA.

On December 30, ward executives in Kano sacked and expelled Dungurawa as its state party chairman, just two weeks after his re-election.

The decision was reached by 27 executive members of the Gargari ward in Dawakin Tofa LGA who accused Dungurawa of creating divisions within the party and instigating internal crises.

Following his removal, Abdullahi Abiya was appointed as the acting state chairman of the NNPP in Kano.

In a motion ex parte dated December 30, 2025, filed by Shuaibu Hassan and nine others, the court restrained Dungurawa from parading himself as the NNPP Kano state chairman pending the final determination of the case.

The plaintiffs, members of Gargari ward, sought to uphold his suspension following allegations of denigrating Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, creating divisions within the party, and failing to pay party dues.

Zuwaira Yusuf, the presiding judge, granted the interlocutory injunction, ordering that Dungurawa’s suspension be maintained until the substantive motion is heard.

The court directed both parties to maintain the status quo as of December 30, 2025, with the hearing scheduled for January 19, 2026.
