Prince Tunde Ponnle, Micom Golf, Ada, a respected philanthropist, education advocate, and key figure in Osun State’s golf and tourism development, has passed away at the age of 94.
He died peacefully in the early hours of today, December 14, 2025, marking the end of a life defined by service, generosity, and enduring contributions to public institutions and community development.
Prince Ponnle served as a member of the Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) until May 2023, where he contributed to policy direction and institutional growth. Beyond governance, his impact on the university was deeply tangible. He was a major benefactor to UNIOSUN, donating substantial personal assets, including a multi-million-naira mansion and the MicCom Cancer Centre.
The MicCom Cancer Centre has since become a critical facility for both healthcare delivery and medical education. UNIOSUN’s MBBS programme regularly uses the centre for rural medical postings, strengthening hands-on training for medical students while expanding access to care within surrounding communities.
Outside academia, Prince Ponnle was widely associated with the growth of golf and tourism in Osun State. His longstanding involvement in golf helped promote the sport as both a recreational and tourism asset, contributing quietly but consistently to Osun’s profile as a destination for leisure and sporting activities.
Those who knew him describe a man of restraint, foresight, and uncommon generosity, whose investments were guided more by public good than public acclaim. His legacy remains firmly embedded in the institutions and sectors he supported.
Newspot Nigeria commiserates with the Ponnle family, associates, the Osun State University community, and all who mourn his passing. We pray that Almighty God grants his family comfort and fortitude at this time and grants the departed eternal rest.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
