The spokesman of the Okwu-Kanu family, Prince Emmanuel Kanu has denied being spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), saying that those insinuating that he is Emma Powerful were doing so for sinister motives.

Prince Emmanuel, who is the younger brother of the leader of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu said that a plot was being hatched by enemies of Ndigbo to jail him like they did to his brother, by tagging him IPOB spokesperson.

He raised the alarm in reaction to the malicious propaganda against him aimed at finding an excuse to clamp him into jail on the falacious claim that he is the same person as Emma Powerful, the media and publicity secretary of IPOB.

Prince Emmanuel noted that security agencies “are not in doubt of the existence or identity of Emma Powerful who has once granted telephone interview to Channels Television”.

An article by one Stanley George, published on an online news platform, had claimed that there is a growing narrative that Kanu’s brother is the same person as Emma Powerful.

The article enitled:”Prince Fineboy Kanu, the Emma Powerful Controversy, and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s Call for Peace in the South East” also alleged that the agitation Biafra self-determination has become a family business of the Okwu-Kanus.

The author, who passed off as an apologist of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, was responding to the scathing criticisms of the former Abia State Governor apparent support of Kanu’s jail term.

He accused Emma Powerful, whom he insinuated to be the same person as Kanu’s junior brother, of setting the South East ablaze through his “inflammatory statements”. George noted that Senator Kalu has emerged as “one of the few consistent voices calling for restraint, calm, and a return to dialogue” in the Biafra agitation.

However, Prince Emmanuel saw the article as “a sponsored media propaganda by the enemies of Ndigbo to incite the security agencies against him in furtherance of the secret agenda to permanently weaken the Igbo nation”.

He said that it was “too lame and laughable” for anyone to swap his identity with the IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, and Prince Emmanuel described the attempt to rope him in identify theft as “too lame and laughable”.

Prince Emmanuel who said he was still preoccupied with catering for his brother in jail, explained that he would not have loved to dignify the article with a response but for the need to put the records straight for the sake of the gullible.

The statement read in part: “Ordinarily, I would have refrained from dignifying this gibberish with a response if not for those who are gullible.

“My major concentration at the moment is to provide care for my brother who is a prisoner of conscience and victim of Nigeria’s injustice and entrenched hatred for the Igbo.

“We know that this is an orchestrated plot by the enemies to frame me up, and possibly confine me to a place the way they did to my brother.

“It is no longer in doubt that some traitors camouflaging as Igbo leaders are conniving with the enemies to sabotage the interest of Ndigbo.

“They are already known for whom they are, and no amount of media propaganda or blackmail will change the public perception about their true identity. But they should remember that history will judge them”.
