The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, held Sunday service despite a deadly attack on the church barely a week ago.
The incident left at least two people dead and 38 others abducted by suspected terrorists.
Church Holds Service Amid Trauma
In a video circulating on social media, congregants were seen sitting calmly and listening attentively to their pastor, who delivered a sermon encouraging courage and faith.
The service comes just days after the violent incident that shook the community.
Pastor Urges Members Not to Fear
The pastor spoke directly to the congregation about fear, death, and God’s promises.
In his sermon, he said:
“I’m going to prepare a place for you and I will come back so that you can join me where I am… He has promised us eternal life, let us not fear death. Wherever/whenever death comes, do not deny Jesus. If you do not deny Jesus, His promise is for you.”
He reminded the members that those who carried out the attack would face divine judgment:
“Those criminals will receive the judgement of God. God is patient with us all so that we may all repent. God wants our repentance and this may be the only thing delaying the second coming of Jesus.”
Victims Honored as Martyrs
The pastor described the two deceased church members as martyrs, highlighting the spiritual significance of their deaths:
“Regarding those that have been killed, I want you to rejoice that they died at the foot of Jesus. Theirs is the death of the righteous. Anybody who gets killed because of the Gospel of Christ is a martyr. In the Bible, we’re made to understand that the death of martyrs is avenged. Their bloods will cry out for vengeance.”
His words brought solace and encouragement to members, many of whom had been visibly shaken by the attack.
Congregation Shows Courage and Faith
Despite the fear and trauma, the CAC members returned to the church and worshipped peacefully.
