A Nigerian truck driver based in Arlington, Texas, Bode Ologan, has been found dead inside his truck, sparking grief and appeals for support within the diaspora community.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Sunday that news of Ologan’s death first surfaced in a Facebook post shared on the Lagos Reporters page by a user, Ibrahim Abolore. The post, which included a photo of the deceased’s driver’s licence, called on the public to help identify and reach his family members.
“Kindly help find out if anybody knows this guy’s family. They found him dead inside the truck in Texas,” the post read in part.
Further checks revealed that the incident occurred on November 7. Friends and associates of the late driver have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to support funeral plans and assist his surviving children.
The fundraiser, created by one Omolade Adeduro and titled “Help Bode Ologan’s Family in Their Grief,” described Ologan as a devoted father of three—Semilore, Semilogo, and Semilola who lived “a fulfilling life” before his sudden demise.
“Please help his children and family raise money for his funeral arrangements and other necessary expenses. Any amount is appreciated. May his soul rest in peace,” the appeal stated.
As of Sunday, it was learnt that $4,717 had been donated by about 16 contributors toward the $30,000 target set ahead of the burial scheduled for November 20.
Ologan was believed to be a native of Owo, Ondo State.
Tributes have continued to pour in from friends, former clients, and members of the Arlington community.
One mourner, Emem Akpabio, wrote on Facebook, “Just got notified that my very first client, and loving father of three whom I obtained sole custody of his kids some 8 years ago, passed away and was found in his truck somewhere in Texas.”
Another user, Josely Pueten, who said the deceased had been one of her tenants, added, “I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I know I got that call for a reason. I’m so sorry for his passing.”
A third sympathiser, Aboukia Fessibay, lamented, “Bode has gone too soon; so sad to see this of his passing.
May God be with his children and the rest of his beloved family.”
On Instagram, Gbemisola Are wrote, “May his soul rest in peace. Driving a truck is a very difficult and risky job.”
