A deadly ambush by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters has left several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) dead in Borno State, with a serving Brigadier-General reportedly abducted during the attack.

Late-Night Attack on Military Convoy

The assault reportedly happened late Friday night along a route in northeastern Nigeria.

The attackers, described as heavily armed and well-coordinated, targeted a Nigerian Army convoy, overwhelming the troops and inflicting heavy casualties.

Witness accounts suggest the ambush was planned with precision, leaving soldiers with little room to respond before the insurgents took control of the area.

Senior Military Officer Reportedly Kidnapped

Surprisingly, the insurgents allegedly captured a Brigade Commander during the operation, alongside other troops.

If confirmed, this would be the first time an extremist group in Nigeria has successfully abducted a serving General directly from the battlefield.

HumAngle, in its report, noted: “ISWAP fighters last night ambushed a Nigerian military convoy, killing several soldiers and members of the CJTF. In an unprecedented escalation, the insurgents abducted a Brigade Commander alongside other troops.”

Nigerian Army Yet to Comment on Incident

As of Saturday morning, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement regarding the ambush or the condition of the kidnapped officer.
