FEC Approves N43bn for Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Gives Approvals to Road Projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over N43 billion for the completion of Phase II, Section II of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, as part of a new round of infrastructure projects under the Ministry of Works.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said the project, re-awarded after years of delay, will include concrete pavements, underpasses, ramps, and adjoining roads.

FEC also reviewed progress on the East–West Road, inherited at N156 billion, with one carriageway completed and work ongoing on the second.

Other key approvals include the Mushin–NNPC–Apapa–Oshodi dualisation (revised from N11bn to N19bn), Ota–Idiroko Road (up from N43bn to N98bn), and Phase II of the Wasasa–Turunku–Mararaba Road in Kaduna (N30bn).

Umahi attributed the cost reviews to design upgrades, inflation, and rising material prices, adding that some states, including Edo, Delta, and Abia, have taken over select federal road projects.
