The Presidency has denied a report claiming that President Bola Tinubu will meet with his United States counterpart, Donald Trump, over alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
The report said Tinubu would visit the United States on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, amid the allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria and the threat of military action by Trump.
The report also quoted presidential sources as saying that Tinubu will be in the United States on Tuesday for top-level diplomatic engagements with the U.S. government.
It added that Trump had “delegated his Vice, James David Vance to meet with Tinubu during the visit,” baring any last minute changes.
Reacting to the report on Monday, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, described the report as false.
“Very very fake news,” the presidential aide wrote on X.
Trump had, last Friday, said “thousands of Christians” were being killed in Nigeria by radical Islamists.
He noted that his administration added Nigeria back to a “Countries of Particular Concern” list of nations that the United States says have violated religious freedom.
Tinubu, on Saturday, debunked claims of religious intolerance and defended his administration’s efforts to protect religious freedom in Nigeria.
The president later asked the Department of War to prepare for possible “fast” military action in Nigeria if the killings continue.
