The father of Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has appealed to Nigerians for assistance, expressing frustration that the case against her alleged killer appears stalled nearly a year after her death.

Christiana was abducted in August 2024 while travelling from her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, to the University of Lagos, Yaba, for her industrial training. The Lagos State Police confirmed that the suspect, 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, a philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, had confessed to killing her after luring her to his home under the pretext of repairing her phone.

Adeleye reportedly admitted to strangling Christiana and extorting ₦360,000 from her mother while pretending she was alive. His arrest followed investigators tracing his SportyBet account using his National Identification Number.

In a video obtained on Sunday, Christiana’s father, Idowu Oluwafemi, expressed deep concern over the lack of updates on the case.

“It’s almost a year now since my daughter was killed, and I haven’t received any information about the case,” he said. “Christiana was an outstanding student. I’m asking Nigerians to come to my aid. I do not know if the suspect has been released, and I feel helpless.”

Responding to the concerns, Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that Adeleye remains in custody. He referenced a January 2025 statement from the Nigerian Correctional Service, confirming that the suspect was properly remanded and that the matter is awaiting advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.

Hundeyin urged the public to refer to the Correctional Service for confirmation, assuring that the suspect has not been released.
