The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Chinedu Ozoagu, and seven other union executives have been suspended indefinitely over allegations of cultism, threats to life, and financial misconduct.
The suspension, carried out by the SUG House of Representatives, followed a petition filed by Christian Okeke, which accused the officials of aiding cultists and non-students on campus for financial benefits.
In a statement signed by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Eze, and the Clerk, Chidozie Onah, the indicted officials were linked to the recent murder of a student within the university.

The statement also alleged that they had used cult groups to intimidate and threaten union leaders, including the Speaker, the Clerk, and the Budget Committee Chairman.
On financial mismanagement, the lawmakers alleged that ₦124 million released for SUG projects was shared among external actors and officials, with no projects executed.
They further claimed that another ₦100 million withdrawn from the union’s account over the past year was unaccounted for.
The suspended president was also accused of persistently pressuring the Speaker to approve the diversion of ₦40 million from the SUG budget and ₦57 million from project funds, in violation of union regulations.
Other suspended officials include Deputy Speaker Ihentugo Rejoice, Emmanuel Asadu, Agbo Sobechukwu Malachy, Chinweike Dorothy, Victory Chidiebere, Chukwuma JohnPaul, and Edmund Solomon.
The university authorities have yet to issue an official response to the development.
