Newcastle United claimed their first victory of the 2025-26 Premier League season as they edged out Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half when Nick Woltemade expertly finished a well-crafted move, giving Newcastle the lead they held onto despite sustained pressure from Wolves.
The victory provided much-needed respite for the Magpies, who had struggled to find form early in the campaign.

The German international powered home a header from Jacob Murphy’s cross in the 29th minute. Eddie Howe’s side had missed a focal point up front as Alexander Isak was absent in the opening weeks before his £125 million transfer to Liverpool on deadline day. Woltemade, a club-record £65 million signing, made an immediate impact.
Also, Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest in Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge.
Martin Zubimendi, who joined from Real Sociedad for £60 million, scored a stunning volley on 32 minutes, before Viktor Gyokeres doubled the lead from Eberechi Eze’s cross at the start of the second half.
Zubimendi then scored his second goal. The victory was achieved without William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and, for much of the match, Martin Ødegaard or Declan Rice.
Bournemouth rose to third with a 2-1 win over Brighton, thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s penalty after Kaoru Mitoma had cancelled out Alex Scott’s early strike.

Aston Villa drew 0-0 at Everton, failing to score while keeping Jack Grealish quiet.
Leeds lost 1-0 at Fulham after a 94th-minute own goal by Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Sunderland continued their strong start with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Tottenham aim to join Arsenal on nine points when they visit West Ham. Chelsea, with seven points from three games, can go top in their 19:00 GMT kick-off at Brentford
