Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has issued a fiery response to a social media user, Adedamola Adetayo, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @BalogunKakanfo1, after he accused her of contributing to the death of her husband, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Adetayo, in a lengthy post titled, ‘No Orchids for Otunba Bamidele Akingboye’, not only linked Akeredolu’s death to his wife but also launched a broader ethnic tirade against Igbo women married to Yoruba men.

He singled out Mrs. Akeredolu, describing her as “a lousy woman from the gutters of Owerri,” and alleged without evidence that she “contributed significantly to Aketi’s eventual death.”

His post went on to accuse Igbo women of being manipulative, incapable of love, and “instinctively violent,” while presenting his own polygamous Yoruba marriages as a supposed model of stability.

In her rebuttal, Mrs. Akeredolu, writing under her verified handle @DrIgoloAbiam, described Adetayo as a “deranged Igbophobic bigot” who twists tragedies into ethnic propaganda.

“Apart from his deep-seated bigotry, Adetayo drips with phallocentric delusion, proudly detailing his polygamous exploits as if his only contribution to society is servicing a harem,” she wrote.

She added that no serious mind in the 21st century could reduce women to such stereotypes while pretending to be a moral guardian of Yorubaland.

On the attempt to link her to her husband’s death, Mrs. Akeredolu said, “His fishing expedition on who killed the late Governor Akeredolu is laughable, a comedy dressed as analysis. But I must make one thing clear: he has no monopoly on cyberbullying.”

She accused Adetayo of weaponising ethnic prejudice to malign Igbo women, stressing that his obsession with demonising them exposed more about his personal insecurities than reality.

Her statement, titled, ‘Re: No Orchids for Otunba Bamidele Akingboye,’ concluded with a warning, “Your Igbophobia is tired, your chauvinism is pathetic, and your obsession with demonising Igbo women exposes more about your insecurities than about reality. If you cannot rise above hatred, at least learn to keep your bile off the memory of the dead.”

Governor Akeredolu, who served as Ondo State governor from 2017 until his death in December 2023, died after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. He was widely mourned across political and ethnic lines, remembered as a bold and outspoken leader.

His widow has since faced repeated online attacks from commentators who question her marriage and influence, often couched in ethnic profiling.
