President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday nominated Louis Odion and Ummasalma Isiyaku Rabiu as executive commissioners of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), moves intended to strengthen the regulatory agency’s enforcement capabilities.

If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Odion, a veteran journalist and former senior aide to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, will serve as Executive Commissioner for Operations. Ms. Rabiu, a 35-year-old nonprofit founder and grassroots advocate, will take on the role of Executive Commissioner for Corporate Services.

The nominations, announced late Tuesday, are subject to Senate approval under the FCCPC Act of 2018.

Mr. Odion, an Edo State native, previously served as Commissioner for Information in Edo and Senior Technical Assistant to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Media. He holds two master’s degrees—one in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham in the U.K., and another in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.

Ms. Rabiu, from Kano State, founded the Usir Foundation, which focuses on education and skills development for underserved communities. A business administration graduate, she has been active in promoting youth and women’s political participation.

The FCCPC is Nigeria’s primary antitrust and consumer protection regulator. These appointments signal the administration’s intent to bolster the agency’s operations, analysts say.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed the nominations in a statement.
